Key Responsibilities:
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to design, develop, and implement solutions to migrate AS400-based COBOL applications to Java and Cloud environments.
- Participate actively in Agile development processes, contributing to sprint planning, retrospectives, and daily stand-ups.
- Analyze existing COBOL code to identify areas for enhancement and refactoring.
- Provide technical leadership and mentorship to junior developers.
- Ensure high-quality code through thorough testing and code reviews.
- Troubleshoot and resolve issues related to existing applications, ensuring minimal downtime and disruption.
- Document technical specifications, architecture, and processes to maintain a clear project history.
- Engage with stakeholders to gather requirements and translate them into technical specifications.
- Conduct performance tuning and optimization of COBOL applications to enhance efficiency.
- Stay update with industry trends and emerging technologies to recommend improvements and innovations.
- Assist in the development and execution of test plans and scenarios to ensure comprehensive coverage.
- Lead or assist in user training and support initiatives for new application features or migrations.
Qualifications:
- 10+ years of hands-on experience in AS400/COBOL development.
- Proven experience in migrating legacy systems to modern platforms, particularly Java and Cloud.
- Strong understanding of Agile methodologies and experience working in Agile teams.
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field.
Desired Technical Skills:
- Proficiency in Java and experience with Java frameworks (e.g., Spring, Hibernate).
- Familiarity with cloud platforms (e.g., AWS, Azure, Google Cloud) and their services.
- Knowledge of database management systems (e.g., DB2, SQL Server, Oracle).
- Experience with version control systems (e.g., Git, SVN).
- Understanding of modern software development practices (e.g., CI/CD, DevOps).
- Familiarity with containerization and orchestration tools (e.g., Docker, Kubernetes).
- Basic understanding of web development technologies (e.g., HTML, CSS, JavaScript).
